And when there is not enough people playing it will not show the leaderboard
adding more rows to variants leaderboards
With my chaturaji experience I can say that I agree. I am currently in the leaderboard but I know there are many players that deserve to be in it too.

@TheUltraTrap
yeah exactly and chaturanji is even less popular than atomic and giveaway so it should be even more visible there

+1. Well I think leaderboard should rather only display 10 or 20 up front, but with an option to expand it to show more like top 200 or some such.
I am sure everybody wants something like this, including the developers, but the top priority among the developers is to merge 4PC with Variants.
Sidenote I would not claim to be good at horde, because I lack a lot of "level one" information that could make me a stronger player. Therefore, to regard all 2000+s as good, is very generous. This kind of reminds me of the whole argument about who deserves trophies and to what extent. Regarding those kind of debates/arguments, I always felt only 1-2 maybe 3 people deserve trophies and based on the best performance.
very good idea about the 10/20 places with the option to expand it
i am not claiming i am good at horde in any way , i am just saying that i am good enough to say that every person that waisted so much time and effort to get to a stable level of around 2000 should be regarded as woth of beeing in the leaderboard, as well as a level of over 2000 shows that he is rather really good, and i am sure that those over 2000 are less than 100 on chess.com but even 1900 can be credited since it is also a hard level to reach, since it took me over 5 or 6 month as well as over 500 games but it could vary between people, yet reaching 1900 is a milestone that is worth beeing happy about,
i do know reaching 2400 is way harder and those people yeah they should be given the respect they deserve since they definitely worked more and harder than a 2000, but yeah a leaderboard that goes to 200 will be fantastic, not only to show people respect they deserve, but as well to show other players some more of a same level contenders they can spare with with still having the possibility to win and not a complete one sided massacre against one of the top 20 players, that way more chances of closer opponents games can be created by showing who is good and who is online..., as well as a new way of meeting more online friends by making it possible to do something yourself rather than leave it to chance of who you will play against , as well as in game you should be more focused on the game rather than trying to make friends
those score levels i said i am only applying to horde since i am not a good player in any other variant , so every variant will have a different score range where a player is considered good good enough amazing or any other way so while those scores might apply to other variants, they might as well not do so

i have to add that those scores are only temporary, since the more or less players there is as well as how good they are will vary over time, so if more and more players join and more and more get better and better, the collective average score will get lower and lower for each section exept for maybe complete begginers making maybe a 1900 at the moment a 1800 , and if chess.com horde gets abandonned and there is less players overall so less good players those that are good will be able to skyrocket their scores making maybe the 1800 category go up to 2000

@rune_raider
well ok, training unproperly will not get you far no matter how much time you use, but i meant that if trained properly, a 1800 will be able to get to 2000 (that is exactly what you helped me with but i were just a bit over 1900 at the time) he will take some time to get to 2000 especially if does not play all day, as well as not all players benefit of the best player on chess.com horde help in the matter so getting to 1900 yourself is impressive work and i do not think you can disagree with that

Personally, what I would love is an all-time highs leaderboard. So this would mean the highest peak ratings for the highest rated players.
nice idea
that way it shows how good a certain player got at a point as well as the inactive players that were really good
but i am afraid that there will be a lot of games played against weaker opponents just to boast the score and get to it

@azertyuiop1234567879 glad that my ideas helped. It is really hard for anybody to improve to 1900 even 1800 by themselves without external resources such as reference games or input of other people.
exactly,
a person on his own will be pretty hard for him to get to 1800 yet again 1900 so thoose people also deserve some credit that they did
as well as they would have developed by themselves their openings, tactics, midlegame play , endgame, all that by themselves so it is even more fantastic that those got to 1900 than those that got helped to get to 2000
but at some point anyone will have to get some help to be able to get better so no way a person can get to best on his own without any external help, not just direct but also indirect by the way of the alreday played games
as you probably already know variants do not have a whole leaderboard where everyone is featured in it, it only has the first 20 players featured as well as shows you your rating as well as your position.
since I mostly play horde I have only recently started to find this thing annoying since only recently did horde on chess.com go through a boom in players, especially pretty good one raising the #20 position to 2160 or so when it was just around 1990 less than 3 months ago, making so many really good players go unnoticed as well as not give them the respect? ( i am not finding a better word for this position yet I know there should be something) they are due.
strictly speaking for horde because that is the only variant I am good enough in to say so, anyone with a score of over 2000 (in bliz rating and over 1700 in rapid rating) or even a few under it are already considered pretty good players, it makes the only people present on the leaderboard are those that are the very absolute best and that can not be overcome without spending months of studying, which makes it pretty useless since the only people that can compete against them are those that are already on the leaderboard or barely under it( maybe like the positions 21 to 26 or so)
what I am trying to say is that more players have to be included on the leaderboard maybe trying to extend it up to 50 or 75 places, maybe even try to include everyone as is the case in standard chess so that in horde all people that are good enough to be talked about are there on the leaderboard.
I am pretty sure that this also applies to atomic and giveaway that have a lot of players and less to other variants as petrified or blindfold od 3+check... that barely have 30 active players overall for an actual leaderboard to show.
in general, all popular games of variants would benefit from an extension in leaderboards showing at least all players that are good enough to be considered good players overall (maybe considering those who have higher than average scores) if not more
please share your thoughts on the matter maybe we could make chess.com agree that adding more slots in the leaderboard is worth the effort it needs as well as if no why is it a bad idea,
thanks in advance for sharing your opinion
