Adding new variants

SOVEREIGN CHESS (by Mark Bates)
I've made a bunch of folders and stuff which I've compressed into a zip with how the game works, looks and stuff. I tried my best, some of the stuff doesn't look so great. Rules are also included in the Rules folder.
https://www.mediafire.com/file/cs6cw7ym07e0hf0/sovereignChess.zip/fileSummary:
Sovereign Chess is a two player game. Whenever a piece lands on a colored square, they control the pieces of that color, however, when the controlling piece is captured, that piece no longer controls those pieces, and the player who captured the controlling piece now controls those pieces.
Pawns move towards the center 4x4 grid and promote when they land on any of the 4 squares inside that grid. The brown lines guide the pawns to the center of the board. Pawns can move sideways.
Rooks, bishops, queens are not able to move further than 8 squares in a single turn, therefore, a king can escape check by getting out of this range.
Pawns can promote to a king, and when they do, the original king gets removed from the board and the promoted king is now the new king. The promoted king does not go where the original king was. It stays in the center where the pawn has promoted.
Controlled armies can control other armies. For example, let's say white gains control of the red pieces. Now, when, for example, a red piece lands on a blue square, white no longer only controls the red pieces, but also the blue pieces, and the cycle can go on. However, this is very risky, as if the piece controlling the red pieces is now captured, white loses control of all of the pieces they used to control.
(I probably missed some things in the summary but the full rules are in the Rules folder as I've explained above.)
And also, this variant has variants. There's a 4 player variant (which I've included) and also a smaller variant (which I've also included.)
This can get very chaotic and very fun and interesting. I think this neat little (not really little, haha) variant should get added! The strategies people could come up with for this could be even more insane than 4PC.

Is it possible to add new fairy pieces? Zebra and Khon, for example, are common fairy pieces that appear in many variants.

Hello everyone.
I came up with, at first glance, an interesting idea for a new variant.

I saw a video on YouTube where one person instructs a player on which piece to move on their turn. For example, if that person says "Pawn," the player has to move one of their pawns.

My idea would be to have a random generator that dictates to players which piece they must move for their next move. The generator wouldn't have to be entirely random; we could incorporate some heuristics into it, but it should still maintain an element of unpredictability. I believe this could add an interesting and entertaining dimension for amateurs, streamers, and viewers alike, potentially leading to a lot of laughter and enjoyment. (Additionally, the player could also be informed about which piece their opponent is "most likely" to move in the next turn.) Certainly, I believe there might be specific cases where this randomization doesn't make sense, but I still think that probability and randomization are interesting aspects.

when will dragon fly variant be added??

for those that forgot what dragonfly is, here it is: dragon fly chess it takes place on a 7x7 board, there are no queens and the setup goes like this, rook, bishop, bishop, king, knight, knight, rook, mirror this setup for black, pawns may not do the double step move, pawns may not promote to a queen, pawns promote on the first or 7th row.

Hallo everyone,

I have recently posted an idea, actually quite simple, natural one to chess.com's bugs report center, and I share it here.

Is there any way to create a "variant" which is itself "real" tournament chess. According to it,

  1. illegal moves are possible
  2. regarding side is punished with some penalties.

That's all! This need not be a variant, it would be put just as a preference like rated/unrated, rating ranges, color, etc.

I wonder your ideas. Thanks in advance!

Okay, let's examine this position a little bit. First of all, let's say you queue into a game of this variant, you are green, and your rating is 2000+, while red, yellow, and green are all 1500s and have the same rating, say, 1555, not gonna be a very fun game for you, my friend. After red moves his king diagonally and blue moves his vertically, while yellow moves his king sideways the position now looks like this: (black pawns are walls)

As you can see here, your king has no safe squares to move to, let's say you try to double-check red and blue, you gain 1 point for the double check, red takes your king, gaining 3 points for the captured king, blue takes the red king, gaining 3 points, yellow moves his king to the corner, after move 2, the position looks like this: (black pawns are walls)

blue moves his king diagonally in the directon of yellow, yellow takes the blue king, the end result is this:

red - 3 points

blue - 3 points

yellow - 3 points

green (you) - 1 point

that leads us to conclude that this variant is highly bignner unfriendly and master unfriendly, and thus cannot be played rated.
