Advice on improving my opening game

some misunderstandings in this annotation
1. e6 allows black to play c5 and put pressure on the center with move like nc6. from there, black will probably develop the Light Square bishop to d7 or play b6 + bg7. Very standard in Queen Pawn positions to play e6 + c5
2. The annotation on move 5. You only want to simplify if it results in a better endgame for you. If you seek trades too much you'll weaken your position and end up in a worse endgame
3. There really isn't a way to improve at openings like this. White played sub-optimally by playing the knight out to c3 before pushing the c pawn. Positions like this aren't analyzed, as they're just inferior for white. Just play natural moves and you'll have equality as black in that opening.
4. The 5th moves doesn't do anything for both sides. just h6 and a3 from both sides and both sides wasted a tempo moving a knight for no reason.

Ok thank you!
I had a rapid game and blitz game where I struggled with my opening. What are some ways I can improve it when it goes beyond the moves I'm familiar with?
