Hello and thank you for joining this group.  We are in the very early stages of organising and arranging everything that would be needed for a UK based "over-the-board" tournament.

We currently need help with the organisation of such a tournament.  Some things that require assistance and thinking include the following:

  • Suitable location
  • Chess boards, clocks and pieces
  • Stationary - score cards, charts, sheets, pairing cards
  • Sponsorship

Ofcourse, this idea is still just an idea and this would not be possible without the contribution by other members.  We are currently seeking help with some of the above, so if you can help please don't hesitate to contact us.

If you have any questions or queries, I look forward to receiving these.

Many thanks for your support.

Martin

It would be nice if we could have many levels of play ie.

Open, U180, U150, U120 (Juniors? U90?).

Also, it would be good if we could convince a GM or IM to come and arbitrate - possibility of having it graded would have to be sent through ECF and unlucky... but would be nice.

I think these are great ideas

Hello group members.

Once we have agreed on location and venue details of this event, we would be in a position to post about this on the chess.com public forums.  I hope this month we are able to decide on the above details as well as any associated costs with hosting this particular event.

It would be a great Christmas present for UK based members and if successful, would be offered each year.  So far I would like to thank Erik for his great support.  He has provided some advice about ticketing for the event (via EventBrite.com) as well as offering Chess.com gear (shirts, hats, etc) for this event.  Hopefully, we could use the chess.com gear with a raffle so that this could help with the costs involved with such an event.  Nonetheless, things are shaping up well and, on behalf of the chess.com UK community, I would like to say thank you.

With my kind regards,

Martin Sketchley
