I've been playing for 7 and a half years since I was 5. I want to become a GM, but I'm only 2000.
Am I decent player for my age?

@AstroDogePlaysChess The honest truth is that the journey from 1100 to 2000 on chess.com is SO MUCH HARDER then that from 200-1100. Openings, puzzles, they all matter. But to get to Rapid 2000, you literally have to be knocking on the door to NM status (it equates to about 1800 USCF). Chess has to be your passion, and you have to be willing to spend a couple hours a day for the next couple years studying the game! But yes, if you do that, then you can EASILY be a 2000+ player by 20. Maybe even a NM.
Not exactly, I agree with the first part. but my USCF is 1650, I am assuming if you are around 200 rated, your USCF would be around 1700.

lol my situation is quite similar.
I played since 6 or 7, starting out at 400 and plateauing at 800 USCF until I quit in 6th grade. Came back the summer of 2019, right before 9th, found out I could deduce moves by simply thinking about things logically, made a cc account and instantly broke the 1000 barrier (before, I was unable to do so no matter how I tried). Thought chess was really cool so I kept reading books and improving.
You can definitely make 2000 before 20, go for it.
Reading your post, you seem to enjoy accuracy a lot. I would advise you to forget it; the only thing you need to focus on are a compilation of common mistakes from your own games. I'd recommend an exercise: go through your latest 20 rapid games, grab a piece of paper, and find every blunder you made and attribute it to a reason. "Being tired" is a reason. "Dog barking and distracting me" is also a reason. "New tactical pattern" is also a reason. "I thought about X threat, but it turns out Y threat was stronger, so I didn't look at Y move" is also a reason. Then you should think of some ways to solve these reasons for your mistakes. As long as in future games, you go "Ah, I didn't make this mistake on the list" you should be good to go. Don't even focus on the moves the engine labels as mistakes, unless the game doesn't have much blunders. I'd recommend finding three problems per game; too much wouldn't be good.
Hope this helps.

1800 USCF isn't really "knocking on the door to NM status" though, you're overselling it.

Do u guys think I could be a GM? I'm a 2200 at 13.
if it's your passion you should definetly go for it

I mean I'm around 1500 and im 11
No need to flex your rating buddy
Thank you
It is not flexing, it's very relevant to the question.
I agree. It is highly relevant
also why the heck is he saying its flexing, hes more than 1800...

my peak was like 1729 but then i had a HORRIBLE tournament
Same, my peak for USCF was 1715, until I had a HORRIBLE tournament, bringing my rating down to 1681.

And I say that as a 1600 Rapid since I've been 13. But then I "retired."
