analyzing your games, games patterns

so everyone says you should analyze the games you played.

GothamChess (IM Levy Rozman) says so here

GM Daniel Naroditsky goes over his games here

so of course I encourage you all to sometimes take a break of playing live games and review your own games , first on your own, then using an engine to spot where errors were made.

Here's my tip of the day.

Chess.com typically at the end of the game can "classify" your game like this

I found it too complicated.

I rely on classifying/categorizing my games in 4 types

 want an example ?

sure my last "Rated" game against an IM from the UK

https://ratings.fide.com/profile/402141

here's the graph of the Game Review

Question for you, out of the 4 types I described, which one should I put this one in ?

and also here's the game link

https://www.chess.com/game/live/143937430406

and even though I won the game on the board and on the clock, this is where Black had a chance to land a crushing blow

can you find the move missed by my opponent ?

Maybe I haven't used it enough to understand it, but I find chess.com's game analysis nearly useless. It feels to me like it's for marketing not for player improvement. The commentary as you step thru a game is super annoying too. ""Good move-you didnt blunder your queen'' or '' Your move h3 expands on the kingside.''

Your opponents miss is interesting-- not hard to se once you know it's there but very hard if the pattern doesnt ring a bell and tell you to look for it.

I agree the move by move commentary is automated and doesnt replace a coach or trainer view

but I found the game analysis graph useful, as you can quickly see if your assessment during the game matches the engine view. Often Hikaru goes back and says " yeah, I thought I was winning here, and the computer agrees" or " where did I miss something. oh i see, Nc6 right away was stronger"

so any chess engine will quickly spot tactical possibilities and also evaluate position.

so if anything it saves me time to analyze part of the game where my opponent outplayed me, or suggest moves I didnt consider.

I can see the evaluation could be useful--I need to start paying more attention to it. Personally, I find it depressing to be +2 (for example) when I cannot see a plan in the position or where the +2 depends on walking a tightrope across an array of ways to go wrong! Maybe I need to evaluate better or more- I seldom try to figure out a positions evaluation. I'm spending almost all my time trying to understand what my opponent can be doing and what I should do.

I wish I could just skip ahead to blunders and mistakes.
