Week 4 - Blitz summary

Games

  • Results: +13-5=0
  • Rating: 632

Key Takeaways

  • Recently I'm playing blitz a lot more confidently, which led to me reaching solid 600 for the first time in a while! I know I can do better than that, but I'm considering taking a break from blitz chess to focus on slow games for overall chess improvement.
  • I figured I like attacking chess from the get-go, mostly with positions that look solid to the unfamiliar eye, but contain a lot of punch - like the London!
  • I figured I have to improve my tactical vision in order to improve "across the board" (not OTB), so during the weekend I bought "Rapid Chess Improvement" by Michael de la Maza and I plan to start his suggested process over the next few months, starting with board vision drills and then tactics puzzles in 7 repeats, to get them drilled in my memory.
  • I'm doing fairly well with the Scandinavian in blitz games, but that's because my opposition is low rated and doesn't know how to punish my tempo loss with 3...Qd8. Again I find myself looking for answers, mostly to respond to 1.e4.
