At this level it's art, at the common level it's a mangy dog marking its territory.  I prefer what is here to abstract expressionism, particularly Mark Rothko's bands of color.  I guess I'm just a philistine.

In my opinion, abstract expressionism was the beginning of the elite art world scamming the gullible public.  If you want to watch a humorous putdown of this elite world watch the 74 minute documentary Who the *$&% Is Jackson Pollock?  It is a hoot.

The documentary revolves around Teri Horton, a long haul truck driver, who is a rough but lovable character who's seen her share of bad times.  She finds a Jackson Pollock in a thrift store and that's where her adventure into the world of art, for lack of a better word, begins.  Just a little aside: Thomas Hoving, the former director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is as big a pompous ass as you're ever likely to encounter in a lifetime of pompous asses.

yikes...i watched most of the video and am shocked as i have been, many times in my lifetime. that so many arrogant know it alls are running around purporting to know the process of Art.

In most cases, they know nothing about what an artist sees and feels. This is the reason for so many of us being poor.  There is no actual way to measure the value of the Art we produce. There are no experts.

Artists, in general, are not gifted at explaining themselves verbally...hence, the expression is visual.  And, sadly, we make terrible business men.  We often settle for less than we are worth...because we come from a place of love, and there is no price tag that can be placed on feelings.

Thank you for sharing that video, Bob...it is an excellent example of how badly misunderstood "ART" is..!
