AWESOME GAME. REALLY AWESOME GAME.

Here, I want to post an awesome win that involved a rook sacrifice, a bishop en prise 3 times, and cool tactics. Unfortunately I can’t post it. It’s my recent game with TAJEAGLE1357 where I played white: could anyone post it and help me analyse where I could have won faster, and my opponents major mistakes?

Is this the game cyboo

cyboo

Yup, thanks!

Ok, so this is the game I am quite proud of.

By move 7, white already has the initiative and Black is more or lesser forced to protect f7.

Move 9. Threatens a devastating pin on the e file...if black plays stupidly, of course. Well, Black is not stupid, so...

12. Why do I use my queen? Because it is kind of useless on the a2-g8 diagonal. Kd8? Why was this necessary? I’m not sure, but his king gets into serious trouble afterwards... I mean, black could have played like Qf6 and then Be7. In the end, both moves are played....but black can no longer castle.

14.Qe2, threatening to mate on e8. Be7, blocking the mate. However, that bishop becomes a thorn in black’s side...

15.Rac1! A subtle move that later has a not so subtle effect. Bd7. Getting developed while possible. Maybe black should have played something else here...but I’m not sure what.

16. Bb5!?!? This kind of gets rid of my bishop for his that was barely doing anything...but neither was mine, and it allows my queen to swing over to the queenside. There is just one flaw in that plan...

17.Qxb5? The other bishop is completely undefended! First piece en prise! And...black can’t take it. 17...Rb8 defending b7 and smartly refusing the offer of the bishop...but the move actually fails. Because white has a surprise attack! Notice that all of a sudden, white’s rooks are eying open files and the queen is in the attack.

18. Rxc7!!! A speculative rook sacrifice that lets the white army flow in....rather slowly. Black has no choice but to take the rook.

19. Be3. This seems to do nothing but save the bishop and incidentally blocking the rook. Weren’t there supposed to be fireworks after the sacrifice? Actually, white has set up traps and the rook only SEEMS out of play. More importantly, black’s queen is just a bystander to all that’s is going on. 19...b6 a move that seems necessary, but now black’s rook seems terribly placed. Why protect a pawn already protected?

20. Rc1+ Ah...so white’s protected bishop was also needed to protect the rook from any back rank nonsense...which the black queen will try to cause. Also, this swings another piece over to the attack. 20...Kd8 is clearly forced.

21. Qc6 Qxb2. A threatening looking move, but as Mate is not threatened, black think that he can pick up some pawns. Now black is +6 at least. If the bishop wasn’t protecting the rook, there would be the threat of QxR mate, but that isn’t the case and the rook can continue doing its duties.

22. Qc7+. Clearly what white wanted to do.

23. Re1!!! Why? Why? Why? Why? Black isn’t sure...so plays Rd8 to try and fortify further.

24. Bd4??? Why try to hang the bishop again? Well...once again, the queen CAN’T TAKE IT! Mate on e7 is now threatened by the rook and queen. That poor bishop on e7. Always getting involved in mates and such things. Well, Black has no better move than Rd7 blocking mate and attacking white’s queen in return.

Now follows a series of moves that give White an extra pawn and eventually black’s queen. Through all of this, the bishop continues to hang...

29.....Rg8. Trying to tie up loose ends, but...

30. Qc7. The bishop is really in trouble this time. 30...Bg5 hoping everything will stick together....

31. f4!! A free pawn....with invisible strings attached! The bishop turns out to be guarding a very important rook! 30....Bf6 was better and should be played here, but Black plays Bh4.

32. g3 is an easy move to be found. 32...Ra8 must have caused black much pain. Of course Bf6 can and should still be played, but black decides to give up his bishop and place his rook on a nice safe square. Now I am the one who is like +6.

33...(after I take the bishop of course!) g5. ?????? 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮??? Maybe black thought that he would give his king some breathing space. Unfortunately, the new open squares are completely covered by my bishop!

34. Qxd6#. Beautiful.

Thanks you Kristen_Winter for posting my game: nice avatar by the way!

please comment on my opponents moves and mine too. 😊 😊

No offense Cyboo, but that wasn't really a good game. The rook sacrifice I personally believe was too risky and your opponent just played his defense really bad. For example instead of saving his queen he decided to attack your queen with his rook which was absolutely terrible. I can't really say that the rook sacrifice is bad, but I know black played a terrible defense when I believe he should've won. But keep up trying sacrifices. It's good to try a risk because it teaches you what's worth the risk and when you gotta play it safe. I think you should take it a little safer next time, but that's just what I personally would do.

I didn't mean to say it wasn't a good game. I meant I don't think it was, but I'm sure that's debatable.

No offence taken! And, anyway, black COULDN’T save his queen. If you look carefully, interposing his rook to prevent mate on e7 was his best option

Well, for your rating is not bad. Of course, there is always something to strive for. But in general, you are well done, and now the computer will help you to make out your mistakes, so as not to repeat them in the future

With computer analysis I made like two inaccuracies and that was all! Very happy! 😊

QueenBomb

Ok good point. I didn't spend much time looking through your game, but my bad. I see the mate and why he had to do that. Good job. I still say it wasn't the best game, but yeah it was good.

QueenBomb

Ok I see where he went wrong. Move 21 he moved his queen all the way down just for a pawn. That's where he blundered, he didn't spend that move playing defense. Good game, better then I thought at first.

😊 😃

WhiteDrake

I think it was a great game. happy.png Congrats. Your opponent didn’t play precisely, that’s true, but it’s hard to play precisely if one throws at them pieces left and right, creating many threats in the process. You completely blunted the h8 rook, so your opponent played down a rook the whole game as well. happy.png

Speculative sacrifice (rather than risky) would be the correct term, I believe. wink.png

Thanks for the comments everyone, and glad you’ll liked it! 😊. One of my best games ever I think!

Very pretty! Good job grin.png Can't really add much that hasn't been said.
