any good ideas on this position?

dodgecharger1968

a4 should crush black.  Same ideas as the Queen's Gambit Accepted.

reti is my first and only opening at this early stage lol, but i see the benifits of a4 thanks Laughing

I prefer b3 here, a4 is also a good option. With b3, your dark square bishop can get active faster.

instead of e3, I like e4 better, and sharper. Give it a go if you want.

I would not recommend reti as first opening though, it's very complex and positional.  Good luck anyways!

RonnyIzsak

it makes most sense to me of all the openings i've seen and read about

RonnyIzsak

after a4 he replied with Bd7.. i tried replying with Nc3

RonnyIzsak

well i managed raising my rating by 300 in about a month using this opening, but to be honest i just got it under control and i encountered a new problem. when playing a solid opponent and middlegame start, i have absolutely no strategy and no clue how to proceed

dodgecharger1968

Well, make a forum post about strategy, post some relevant games in it.  But that's what SynCn was warning you about above.  The games can be very strategically complex, very positional.

dodgecharger1968

Here's a game that started off that way.  Tough to find because black doesn't go that way very often, with good reason.

As beginner, opening systems can be useful, such as the Colle or London system, or Kings Indian Attack, where the middle game plan is a bit easier to grasp. I still struggle with the Reti and am about to put it aside until my overall positional play has improved.

RonnyIzsak

nice. well my positional play is improving so i might get back to the reti soon.

i've been trying to learn the scotch and queens gambit lately
