Week 1: Chess Goals 12 week Intermediate Rapid & Classical Plan Review
Metrics: Start/Week
Chess.com Blitz: -NR-/608
Chess.com Daily: 1233/1233
Chess.com Rapid: 918/907
Chess.com Puzzles: 1004/1171
Chess.com Puzzle Rush (3min): 9/11
Lichess Puzzles: 1650/1700
Take aways:
1. Very uncomfortable playing blitz for the first time. Started off with no repertoire either for white or black. Decided to play a simple system system for both: Inverted Hanham for white and Philidor for black. Midweek I was able to win four in a row after a very rough start to the week.
2. Played above openings in both rapid and slow time control games. Need to start documenting positive and negative take aways from all games. Also, need to formalize method for reviewing openings of all games. Lost slow time control game by blundering and becoming mated after having a significant advantage for majority of the game.
3. No daily games completed during the week.
4. Good puzzle week with all time highs for chess.com puzzles and puzzle rush and Lichess puzzles.
5. After having the Yusupov book for a while now the program prompted me to start. Only scored 50% on the chapter 1 test. I did not spend sufficient time solving at ~ 30 minutes. Need to review and spend more time in the future understanding the examples and solving the problems.
6. Put in a lot of work this week and plan on continuing. In the future I may spread daily work over two days or add a rest day in between.

Take aways:
1. A bit disappointed with myself this week as I was not as focused as I was during week 1. This definitely shows itself in lousy metrics this past week.
2. With my goal to focus on rapid and classical improvement the plan as presented has too much time dedicated to blitz as presented at ~1/3 of the training time.
3. Games seem more pertinent from learning standpoint for me as time control increases.
4. I am going to stick with the plan, however, focusing on 15+10, 30+30, and 45+45 time controls.
5. I will post my updated plan in a later post.
6. Need to include review of failed puzzles in that plan update.
7. One thing I have struggled with in this journey is my opening repertoire. I have revisited that again this week and will update in a later post.
8. The Chess Goals plan has provided me a framework to organize my training relevant to my skill level.
