I think I'm a classic case of the "vaguely interested in chess, but too scared to actually play much" archetype. I love doing chess puzzles on my commute, and have been playing daily games for the past few weeks. But shorter time controls stress me out, and I don't play anything other than Daily games regularly because (childishly, despite being in my late-twenties) I don't like losing - and I tend to lose a lot!
So my main goal for this 12-week programme is really just to play more, have fun, and get over myself!
In terms of rating, my current blitz rating is very low because I tanked it when I first joined the website and then never played again, whoops. But I feel like once I'm more comfortable with shorter time controls I might experience some "noob gains", so if I can pull myself closer to 800 and maybe even be ready to do the Beginner 2 plan after this one, I'd call that a huuuuuge success
