Begging for points

Yellow wanted some points to avoid finishing at the 4th place. Red obliged and gave him the second place, by feeding him points.

IMO the real argument against it is that while helping one player, you're f*cking the others. So it isn't as simple as "he asked for help, buddy". The guy did an effort to harm other players.

This is completely different as claiming a win, since claiming it can save you from losing time in a game that is already decided in your favor.

Wow. The nerve of some people.

If you were a winner...

If I go to 1st place, so I see: who did not try to f*uck up me during the game, who did not make stupid moves against me, who did not try to prevent my winning - so I can help with 2nd place. But if player is mim, so I can make mate for him without New Year gifts )))

In these type of situations I also like to hand 2nd place to someone if i like his play (good moves, moves to make game interesting), instead of someone who is hiding all the time and couple of times comes out just to snatch some piece or deliver some check to throw someone out of balance for no real reason and in odds to rational line of play etc.

But I never saw someone asking for points. This is just too much!

Y'all, on both sides of this, are taking ratings too seriously. Maybe I should start working on a "money for points" app.

But yeah, it creeps me out when someone asks me to help them point-up after a game is in my hands. That's when I know for certain I just met someone who should not be allowed to vote.

Yeah, this is a big problem with the points system. Another argument for auto-claim-win?

In my opinion it is up to whoever is winning the game what he wants to do and who he wants to help. He's earned the position to decide the outcome of the game. Ethically he did nothing wrong in complying with the beggar.

But I do agree that it feels dirty. It is not showing good sportsmanship to ask someone to do this, and for someone to beg for mercy like that is really pathetic. But by principle I still don't think authoritative intervention is needed in such cases or that systematic changes are needed to prevent such cases. Red earned the position to make the decision, and thus whatever decision he takes is justified.

However, auto-claim-win isn't a bad idea. It's simpler than someone performing a surgical biopsy on a dead game to sort out who should be rewarded for his play in order to win social points for a later time. Keep it inside the game at hand. When the objective is met, end the game.

I don't know if it's a strong argument for auto-claim-win, but what's the argument AGAINST auto-claim-win? Heck, I don't even know where I stand on the issue anymore. I just know that for what I'm concerned, auto-claim-win wouldn't affect me one bit, because I always claim win instantly.

If you were a winner...

With my comment i meant everyone.

Including the point begging dude (who needed to beg points from the winner), you ( would not have to complain about it) and the winner ( referring to hes situation when he has won he can do however he likes whether its right or wrong).

I have never been (and probably will never be) in such a comfortable position as Red in the above game, so I feel he has played excellent enough to deserve the choice of how many pieces he wants to let anyone capture.

Sometimes it's a good thing to to give points to the other remaining player, if that player has helped you out in some way. Or, more importantly, if the player that is already dead but in second place made some complete illogical moves that harmed you. It's a part of the game.

But begging for it like a dog is a low thing to do. They have no self-respect. But if you want to avoid it, there really isn't any problem - you can just stop the chat at the start of each game you play.

It never gets old! Blue wanted 24 points to replace me in the 2nd place. Yellow said "No", by checkmating him. :-)

i also try to mate instead of claiming, most of the time, depends if i feel they deserve it wink.png

we have auto-claim on the test server now. but auto claim only kicks in if the standings remain unchanged, so you can choose whether to claim or not as long as claiming means your opponent will overtake someone.

not a huge fan of this personally but it could help against gifting points in many cases.
