I agree the new UI and everything isn't appealing at all. I hope they bring the old version back! Please Chess.com! ![]()
Beta Site
I always figured this was where things were headed. I deal at work with this struggle of custom systems vs commodity systems. One of the big challenges in IT system replacement projects like this is trying to recreate the legacy system - it almost always causes projects to fail. Avoiding that is smart but will annoy the users.
The challenge now is that unless they put all of that functionality in the contract that we're losing and it just hasn't been all rolled out yet - it's probably very expensive change orders to the contract to make it do more.
I haven't checked out the site yet. I'm okay with letting the aesthetics - although if it's a modern app a lot of that should be just a style sheet away from improving it. We need to have access to data though so people can build apps that will scrape data to create more interesting views of the data. I'm assuming they won't have public application programming interfaces, but who knows - maybe they will.

I liked the beta website but I do agree there are some features on the old website that must transfer over. I do think the ability to see your record against individual players throughout all events, you can see the last rated events in your state, and being able to filter the events you played in based on time, format, state, etc.
its growing on me the more i look at it and found players' fide ids on their profiles on desktop while not finding them on mobile but dont like how easy it is to see past events via tournaments because past a couple months its hard to get to via that, and want the floors and correspondence rating as well as peaks in the game stats as well as the background lol. it sounds like they are going do the site that way but we'll see what happens, hopefully they'll add that stuff in more/better for the final one

This topic is not about Chess.com
Saw the email tonight about it and don't like the new us chess beta site's look :/ Hoping they don't go with it and voted in the email feedback they sent out not for it. Everything is more in one place but it also looks like other chess organizations' sites more to me now which is ok but isn't as cool or beautiful as the old site I feel like and doesn't show floors or Rating gain and loss in the same way while not having the old school tan background thats one of a kind :/ Is going to switch in December it sounds like if they decide to do it so going to save pics of it maybe for nostalgia before they do but hope they keep the old site and the way it looks too at least for a while :/ it also fails to show player's Correspondence ratings and top achieved ratings in each format because it only shows ratings by supplement in the graph :/
