Better Engine!

My chess game is improving and so the 2500 chess engine that my membership gives is becoming less useful. Is there a chess engine for free that can outperform the one of the level of 2500? Which chess engine would you recommend as the best one from the list of free downloads that this site has?

Crafty is free and has an estimated ELO of 2608, according to wikipedia, but I suspect that is the one supplied by this site.  An older version of rybka is freely available, with an estimated ELO of 3110, also according to wikipedia.

Thanks for the data. I have also made my own research. I'll try to download Rybka. I feel slightly discontent for my previous ideal.                I once thought that learning this game for myself, without any type of assistance, will make it more enjoyable. I have significantly improved after started analyzing my games with the collaboration of an engine.

Look into Stockfish as well. Stockfish is also open source and I believe it is estimated to have an ELO rating over 3000.

Stockfish has an ELO of 3138, also according to wikipedia.

What process most I follow to download one from this website? I tried to do so but all I see is a black screen.

I looked into this thing of engine, and i download one yesterday...(Lebeast, that blank screen need an application, like arena, shredder, frits etc....I think you only got the engine-program(like rybka), you need the application also....)anyhow, I'm not good with the terms.  My chess is getting boring, I have played for a year on chess.com, and my rating went up to 1826, my average challenge was 1706. I loose more games than what I win.  I find it hard to beat lower rated players, but sometimes I would beat a 2000 rated player, it kept my rating between 1750 and 1600.  I read many chess articles, and i believe my rating had dropped with 200 points due to more outsiders joining in(and therefore claiming my points, as they go past me)  Then one day, I checked this explore games, and the guy i play against also did that, so i thought, what a naughty boy!  And then I realized that all ain't well in this game. Since yesterday I play my engine, and just for interest sake, i check on those two third games that I am losing...I am guilty doing it, but I noticed that once you are behind(or in the negative figures)you, will not easily recover! Then I took my games that I had won against top players, and i noticed something remarkable, When you sacrifice a piece, you rip open a new dimension, kinda shock-treatment- to a system that value pieces and position...and that was how i win those games. I had realized, that the only thing that would change the outcome of a came is creativity! That would give you the edge on a game, and in your opening moves you get such a gap-more eazy, thats why 960 is better, i guess.  If you know where you are going, you will win...The damn engine also steal your creativity, it is actually a waste to play with it.  Rather use it to analyses the game:)  Tell you what is fun, when you analyze your best game, and then the engine say you are behind with that figure, and then out of a blue, the opposite happen...I had it that my opponent had +M3 and then I moved my queen and it said -M2....haha, that is how close it was! not even my engine saw that until the last move! Put this game in your engine!
