What gear did you shoot the birds on?

I used a Casio EXILIM FX-1 (Yes...CASIO of all people make a good camera) filming at 300 and 600 fps. 1200 fps is overkill, but I'll film hummingbirds at 1200 when they return for the summer.

The last video still works and is pretty funny ...

I play a lot of flight simulators, and that crack about "staying on the runway during takeoff" is not really all that far off, I think! I do a lot of WWII sims, and those birds, with that huge prop, really swings a lot of torque. They want to veer left, so you need to left rudder, then when the tail comes up, you have to lighten that rudder or you'll be off the runway; and some of the older models (Pre-1941) want to dip their left wing because of all the left rudder and torque once you do lift off!
