Blindfold Chess ideas

I really like the blindfold variant since I've been trying to learn to play blindfold for a while. There are a couple ideas I had that would make me like it even better;

1. It would be great if there was a way  to play blindfold games in the normal pool not necessarily against a blindfold opponent. (I know there's an option to have blindfold piece set, but I also want to have a separate rating when I play blindfold so I don't tank my normal rating).

2. When blindfold variant was newer, I could see the whole move list even though I couldn't see the pieces.  I prefer this because the challenge for me is visualization not memorization and it creates in my mind an unnecessary added difficulty.  It would be nice to at least have the option of still allowing the normal move list to appear.

Just little complaints, but overall I am very impressed with the new variants and Blindfold chess in particular.

Can I say that your 1 is like "Letting your opponent choose if he wants to see the pieces"?

Then you have several scenarii:

1. If you and your opponent don't choose to display pieces, rating will be updated whatever the result is

2. If the opponent decides to see the pieces but not you, your rating is updated only if you win. Opponent's rating is updated if he looses but not if he wins.

3. if you and your opponent decide to see the pieces, rating is updated whatever the result is

Hi I don't know about live chess but for Variants I can say:
- you can turn on blindfold for yourself in ANY game, just press shift-alt-F (soon you will have more options to create casual games or combine rules).

- yes the moves list was shown until a recent update, but it seems players don't usually have access to that info in a blindfold game (correct me if i'm wrong).

- blindfold is currently casual only, but could me made rated anytime. What's your preference?

Well, no one would want to play if they can't gain rating.  I want my opponents to gain rating.  Ideally I just want blindfold Michael to be a separate player (with probably lower rating), but it is against chess.com policy to have multiple accounts.

Hi, Spacebar!  I can adjust my board and piece settings to hide my pieces in live chess, which would be my preference so I can play with all the live players.  I'd like to be able to compare my blindfold rating with other people's regular ratings.

It's cool that you can turn on blindfold in the other variants, but they already have their own interesting factors, so I'm not sure how much I would use that.

You're right that you can no longer see the move list in blindfold chess. (per the last time I tried it)

it will be good if we are able to input moves using keyboard in blindfold chess

Would be good if you could click on the squares to move the pieces and it would actually work, like in normal blitz and bullet games on Chess.com. I admit it's really funny how you have to click about 5 times on the same square to pick up a piece in blindfold because it doesn't work for about the first 4 times and I've laughed a lot while losing games on time and getting frustrated for no reason is very funny but making it work would be better than not working, I think.

It's so funny how I keep losing games because it takes ten times to try to make captures in this game. Don't change that aspect because that would be too efficient.

I would like to second this suggestion. I think the blindfold variant is a fantastic idea, but it is really not any different if I just turn blindfold pieces on in the normal live lobby. Having the option to type in the moves on keyboard would allow players to not look at the board for a true blindfold experience. Please consider! happy.png

I really like this idea (feature)

Hey, they got rid of the blindfold leaderboard sad.png.

It would be good to have it back, rather than 4 leaderboards for atomic, 3 for Fog of War, etc. Blindfold is, at least, much closer to chess in its purest form than these other variants.

The leaderboards are published if at least 30 different players have played 2 games in the last two weeks.
