Blocking of opponents should be time limited.

Something for admin to consider.

Some players use the player blocking function because they don't like other players style of play, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the game of chess. This function is the equivalent of cancel culture and is detrimental to the game. People should stop being so pathetic and over sensitive.

Blocking should be limited to 24 hrs then automatically cancelled.

Any thoughts on this proposal.

Thanks.

seems a bit far fetched tbh. You'd have to block thousands of people to be sure never to face a certain "style of play". Blocking should maybe be limited to a certain amount so that there is no abuse but no problem if you can block 10/20 accounts you don't like.

btw I've never blocked anyone even lousy cheating wannabe trolls

In variants or 4 player chess (or top of rapid) you can strategicaly block to play higher/lower people.

Hi,

It's not the number of players who block that is the issue. It's the duration of any block, which seems to be set as forever as a default.

Thanks.

+1, I agree, everyone should get another chance, maybe not 24H which would limit the effectiveness of blocking, but maybe a block should only last for a month? then you could just re-block if you wanted to.

This could possibly increase the chances of getting matches.

Here's where the problem lies; blocking is universal on chess.com, and unless there's a feature where you're alerted that a block has expired, it's not going to be very effective at making those who use blocking responsibly happy.

true, but what if you have to add a reason box because you block this person, that way, the person will stay blocked temporarily blocked until the moderators agree that its a logical reason, maybe even add an AI to recognize patterns of logical and not logical, even though it might cost money.

Whew, long speech.

I have been strategically blocked in antichess in variants. It still shows that they are there, but you can’t play. It will allow someone to get higher ratings.

MuppetRobin

the only way for a block to "expire" is reaching the maximum amount of blocking account number, so every block exceeding that estimated (maximum) number will automatically unblock a random account from your block list...Blocking only works in standard FFA and Teams. Blocking does not have any effect in anonymous games (only Semi-anonymous and public) it also does not work in 4PC variants.

Blocking is a tool, stopping trying to ban this.
