Hmm. Interesting thought.
However, if you make each individual pawn have an orientation, it will make it confusing for everyone. There would be no way to tell which way it was facing. Maybe an orientation by player might work, though.

In other words, the "one direction." So, when I set a pawn, in the Board Editor, I could have the option to adjust that color's "army" of pawns' orientation. If you look at the sample games in the links in the original post, you will notice that Red's army of pawns do not move in all kinds of wild directions. Red's army of pawns advance toward Red's opposite facing opponent (toward Blue). In the links, you will see that Yellow's army of pawns also advance toward Yellow's opposite facing opponent (toward Green). That is all I am asking for Blue and Green. The same forward advancement of their pawns.
you mean support for pawns moving in any direction?
i'm afraid i'm not gonna do that. would be fun though, as long as you're not the one who has to get it to work (getting this right including en passant would be a small nightmare of a task )
AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think it's too confusing, also
but: we have a new setting:!!
Hello. I've looked at the "Q" shortcut on the test server. In the Board Editor, it changes the orientation of the whole army (which is cool. Thanks!). This shortcut also reorients the army during a game, but the direction that pawns advance remains the same.
@spacebar hello,
There is an interesting map that I saw e4bc playing. He probably is the creator. I adjusted it slightly, but when I attempted to play this map with bots, I (as either Blue or Green) was unable to move the pawns.
Looking at the attached image, it appears that the direction Blue's pawns move is toward the right (toward Yellow). And the direction that Green's pawns move is toward the left (toward Red).
For Custom/Variant games, can the Board Editor allow "orientation" when placing a pawn. In other words, could an arrow appear, in the Board Editor, when placing a pawn, so that the user could set the one direction (arrow up, down, left, right) of that color's army of pawns?
Here is e4bc's modified FEN:

Here are example games. You will see that when I played as Blue or Green, I was unable to move the pawns forward toward my opposite facing opponent.
