Plus and minuses and times and divides

Squares and cubes and roots and cube roots

A mess of numbers, my head goes all diddly-daddley

I stare at the window through to the house opposite

My heat-laden brain sees the roots and cube roots as that house

One moment with a sloped roof, the next with a straight roof and a tail,

Occasionally with a number 3

I stare at the blue curtains in the house opposite

And stare back at that boring canvas of a foolscap; see the blue ink

And think to myself: if the house is roots and cube roots,

Then the parantheses in the roots and cube roots must be the curtains, blue as sky
