Breach of privacy due to chat messages being publicly accessible

yeah... Ive done that before as well and got nowhere. I am just extremely surprised the allowance to be okayed and nothing to change it to something more appropriately sane. It's sad

@ThePEPSIChallenge don't thank me, because I dislike your username also! Putting the article "The" inside a username is worse than redundant IMHO. But all these are irrelevant to the subject of this thread (chat messages and privacy), and should be discussed in a dedicated thread. It would be a sad and bitter thread though, so I don't intend to start it myself. :-)

Had the beginning of the site required only people's names there would be tons of 2nds 3rds 4ths etc etc etc II III IV looking totally ridiculous don't you think? 

Okay... not if it was first last name but it would be dull, and coming up with a username can be fun, as it's only intended unless it is outright heinous.

How's adding "The" worse than redundant? It's of a comical nature, that's it. I simply was drinking one when I began account and used that phrase. Hilarious your dislike, maybe because soda you don't drink, no idea, it wasn't to float your boat, I like it.. The other that my inquiry is on is offensive, rude, blatantly obnoxious, etc etc etc etc...

I'm surprised to see people (here) are getting angered over my choice of username. A chess.com staff contacted me today and I told them I do not wish to change my username. I believe it is my right to choose whichever I want and that chess.com's policy which I initially believed it upholds freedom of religion, has not been violated by my desire to use this name. It is a shame people are getting offended over trivial things like this. It is just a username after all. I wouldn't be angry if someone were to use a username that shows support for another religion (i.e. Christianity, Islam, etc).

Anyways, thanks BabYagun and everyone for answering my question regarding the privacy issue. I don't agree with the system obviously but at least now I'm slightly more aware about it. I'm just going to refrain from chatting as a workaround to solving the issue.

Dude if you really think that utilizing usernames for religious propaganda is a good idea, at least choose a username that describes yourself and your affections. Don't force everybody else to unwillingly worship your preferred deity, every time he wants to refer to you. I quickly checked that the usernames DemonLover, SatanWorshipper, VirginSlayer, PuppyTorturer are available on chess.com, so you have plenty of choice.

for me, i don't understand the fuss, neither about the chat (i think many games are so much more interesting to look at if the chat is included) nor Dr Satan's username (i think it's ironic)
