Brett's Intermediate Rapid & Classical Plan

Here's a quick update for where I'm at:
Week Number | End of week Blitz rating | End of week Rapid rating | Daily Game Rating | Additional Study completed | Game Analysis Takeaways |
Start | 1425 | 1455 | 1471 | ||
1 | 1436 | 1469 | 1454 | Completed Chapter 1 and test on Mating Motifs | I ran into quite a few openings I was not familiar with and need to study. For tactics, I need to train up seeing skewers and pins. |
2 | 1387 | 1464 | 1454 | 60 minutes of Rated Puzzles, 30 minutes of White openings and 30 minutes of Black openings | In the opening, I need to look for attacks that also develop a piece. Tactics training should include skewers and looking for undefended pieces. |
3 | 1401 | 1498 | 1435 | Completed Study on Chapter 2 (Mating Motifs 2) but missed too many on the quiz so I'm redoing that study in Week 4 | I ran into the King's Gambit in a Rapid game. In blitz or bullet, I usually do fine, but the slower time control is where I run into problems. Tactics training should be all about forks. |
4 | 1405 | 1507 | 1435 | For this week, it was a mix of openings, puzzles, and endgames. I went through various opening courses on Chessable for White, did 10 Rated Puzzles, and then did 30 minutes of endgame work on "100 Endgames You Must Know." | The only constant in week four's games was the tactic of a fork. I missed this in at least three games in which I could have forked my opponent, so I'm planning on doing at least 10 fork puzzles per day next week. |

I

So I have had to take a hiatus on this plan because I allowed myself to play a bunch of Blitz games, totally messed them up, and dropped a significant amount of rating points. But in times like those, I always go back to what IM Levy Rozman has said, in that you're still the same strength but your rating doesn't reflect that.
With that in mind, I took some time for puzzles and just straight study and started playing Blitz games again and slowly but surely have been getting my rating back to where it once was. One of the things I was pretty happy about was still going through the course work in "The Fundamentals 1: Build Up Your Chess" book. In my last game, I directly used some of the ideas learned there to win this last game in which I even managed to get a brilliant move! It was the same idea as Damiano's mate.
All in all, it was a bit frustrating to lose my rating points so much, but I'm making a comeback and will start up the scheduled plan this coming week. Cheers!

So on top of getting my rating back to normal and being able to use some of the training from this plan in practice, I also just got my first 100 accuracy! It was a quick game as the guy blundered a piece, but I'll take it!

Ok, after yet another hiatus, I'm back. My ratings have stayed somewhat similar, though my Blitz rating is going up again. I have found that I do much better within 3|2 time controls as intuition is a bigger part of the game and what I'm trying to build with Blitz, so I'm moving to that time control here.
Currently, as a reset moving into my next attempt to actually finish week 5:
- Blitz: 1445
- Rapid: 1499 (I won one game and lost two other Rapid games since last posting)
- Daily: 1451
- As a side note, I've entered Chess.com's Daily Chess Championship. I do this every year as I enjoy the challenge of so many games.
- Rated Puzzles: 2170
Hey all,
The prodigal son has returned haha!
I took quite a long break from posting in the forum due to limited time in my day for the last 2-3 months but wanted to check back in with everyone! I am getting started with this thread a bit late as I'm in week four of this plan, but I've been having really good progress so far and wanted to share.
I decided to jump into the Rapid and Classical plan as I had great success with the Intermediate Adult Learner program and have been continuing to improve based on the concepts I learned within that program.
Below are the stats for the entire plan as I've been working on it. One thing I should note is that if I do have any extra time outside of the training plan, I try to review quite a few courses that I have on chessable, but I won't be describing those here as it's too hit and miss. For the Yusupov training, I'm starting with the first book, Build Up Your Chess. I've also been hitting the maximize content heavy and playing as many of those games as possible in addition to the puzzle training.
I also wanted to celebrate that today I finally crossed the 1500 rating level in Rapid. I kept getting close to within a few points but would then always lose. I finally got there today though in a game that I was able to get a discovered attack on their queen and they didn't even realize it.
