There are risks in random partnering that I don't know we can ever fully avoid. One of those is that if your partner wants to quit at any time, they can do so. Either with resignation, abandonment, or just by giving up pieces and opening themselves up to a mate. I don't know how that makes a difference on move 2 or move 1. It is just a risk you have to accept when you rely on a random player.
