UPDATE: Sergeant is actually a King that is only visually rendered as Sergeant because of MAKE_REVERSE_MOVE relying on `promotedFrom` property in fen somewhat incorrectly.

Reproduction: Remove last move and play it manually on the board.

Note: Unable to reproduce locally, probably fixed?

Not sure if it's intentional, but in Petrified, if you capture en passant, the pawn captured becomes petrified rather than disappearing from the board. It's easily reproduced in analysis mode.

Petrified is made of the two following rules:

  • Fatal Capture that turns capturing (but pawns) and captured pieces into dead pieces.
  • Dead Wall that turns dead pieces into bricks (stone pieces).

That's why in Fatal + Atomic combination the exploded pieces become dead rather than "captured" and disappeared from the board.

The behavior is intentional.

I think that's a gross misunderstanding of the Fatal rule.
The captured piece is always removed i.e. goes into the bank in crazyhouse.
In Atomic+Fatal+Crazyhouse, only the captured piece goes into the bank. The capturing (exploding) piece or pawn, and the surrounding pieces (not pawns) are just exploded and turns grey (or bricked if Stonewall).
The red pawn that was captured en passant should have been removed (or moved to the bank in Crazyhouse, which does not happens).

Yep, you can walk into that bricked pawn, but when you walk out your entered piece stays there (becomes a part of the chessboard svg layer) and the bricked pawn moves as your piece

I think it is a bug in the board rendering not in the rule itself, or lazy programming using the atomic explosion to remove that pawn tongue
