huh that is a bit of a tl;dr indeed.
There is a hidden rating range of +-400 which might be making it hard for you to find pairings. Honestly I didn't foresee players being so far ahead of the pack . Rating range will be customizable in the future.
As a quicker fix, I think I need to add the the invisible +/- 400 rating range is adjusted for players with extremely high (or low) ratings, otherwise it might be hard for them to get games. Thinking of capping min-rating at 2000. So your range would be 2000-3100, not 2300-3100.
>This game was from before the rating change
make sure you don't open old games, and hit the Play button in them - that could indeed cause the game to not use the new ratings.
So, this is kind of an interesting one. I suspect it's related to the rating redo that happened for the leaderboards. I think I somehow started playing games that effected the old rating stat instead of my new one. As you can see here, between playing DrAtom102 and DiamondDan137 it looks like I somehow lost 27 points without playing any games.
After playing DrAtom102, I checked my rating on the leaderboards and it still said 2722 even though during the games my rating said I was higher than that. I figured it might just be that the leaderboard script only runs every so often and it was just taking a while to update. But when I went to play DiamondDan137 I noticed my rating had apparently dropped back down 27 points.
I think what actually happened is that I somehow played games that effected the old ratings that were being used before the leaderboard feature became available. I think this because clicking on my name in my games with DrAtom102 shows the atomic blitz rating breakdown thing, like it used to before the leaderboards, while clicking on my name in my games with DiamondDan137 does not.
I have one theory as to how this could have happened. Maybe. It involves the fact that players can't accept challenges if the ratings are too different (I think this is the reason at least) but they can accept rematches. If you try to challenge them everything will look normal, but then nothing will happen regardless of whether they click accept or decline. I asked keiranmiddlebrook in chat if he wanted to play a few games and he said sure. Since we couldn't get a game by challenging each other we went back to the last game we'd played and clicked the rematch button which is available when both players are around. This is a very nice work around to have available since it allows me to get games with people I've played before if they want to play, which can be hard due to my rating being so high lol. This game was from before the rating change that came with the leaderboards and I think it lead to the system using the old ratings instead of the new ones somehow. I didn't notice it at the time, but looking back there was a rating jump there as well.
Now why did this effect my games with DrAtom102? IDK. He challenged me and I clicked accept, but nothing happened, as is normal with large rating gaps. To show him that it wasn't because I didn't want to play him, but rather because the accept button didn't work, I sent a challenge to him, and he clicked accept which as expected didn't work. But then he sent another challenge to me, and this time the accept button did work. I have no idea why it worked this time, but given that it happened right after my games with keiranmiddlebrook where I do have an explanation for why it might have used the old rating system, I suspect the fact that my old rating was used for these games is related.
TL;DR A bug occurred which was likely related to another oddity that I and other players had been using to get games when the challenge option wouldn't work for whatever reason. Lots of strangeness involved.
