But is it teaming?

@VAOhlman give me a list of games (player IDs and winner), and I'll give you a list of fake teamers. happy.png

This is what we plan to release:

FFA = Rated Std = +2 +1 -1 -2 = what we have now in FFA = 2 winners (or "a winner + lesser winner" as Gustav said). All FFA games will be rated this way, as it used to be. We won't force top players play WTA.

Solo = Solo Play = WTA = +4 -1 -1 -2 = 1 winner = what we have now in 1550+ FFA games, but it will be a separate mode.

WTM = Winner takes Most = +3 0 -1 -2 = "WTA light" (with menthol).

Casual = not rated.

I saw this game - https://www.chess.com/4-player-chess?g=872915-102

It was really weird that a free Q was not taken on move 20. The rest is pretty normal FFA play. Move 20 could be an oversight - or maybe even a strategical concept of keeping the guy opposite you alive, to keep the two side players busy. Maybe the game SHOULD have a certain "quasi-teaming" quality for a while, so long as four well-armed players are still on the board - maybe this is part of sound strategy (but you don't want your direct opposition to get TOO strong, as that's also dangerous).

I'm not for anonymous playing - that's a totally unnecessary cautionary measure against a danger that doesn't exist.

Regarding WTA - I'm not sure that this should be the ONLY way to play once all players are 1550+. I think that the four concerned players should VOTE on it when the game starts, deciding by majority - and if the result is 2:2, let the lowest-rated player decide.

I banned once because of verbal abuse and offering a team to finish me.

First time this happens to me. https://www.chess.com/4-player-chess?g=1434610-47 Yellow and green didn't care to hide their intentions at all. Teamplay the entire game, hanged pieces no taken, both accounts created on May 13, and they ended the game the moment I resigned, by resignation of the player who was clearly winning.

ccoppola

After writting that, I checked the archive, and verified that they have always played together.

GustavKlimtPaints

Thanks, sending a report in game is enough, but I banned them, clear cut case of teaming.

I like FFA because it is a little like politics: you form coalitions and are free to break them at any time. The main things to be afraid of are revenge and unpredictable tantrums of stupidity.

JonasRath

If you need a clear-cut example of teaming for future reference, check out this game. The two guys involved always play together.

Once in a FFA game, one of my opponents actually said "who wants to team with me" into the chat.

Elcin_Ahmad

clearly cheating here https://www.chess.com/4-player-chess?g=1957809  by Bismark and Atko. Bismark wrote the words which meant   preliminary agreement of teaming and Atko accepted.

Elcin_Ahmad

cheating by 2 slovenian guys here https://www.chess.com/4-player-chess?g=1958023  One of them wrote to other in the slovenian language "the red is first" and other guy do exactly what he said. P.S. I never reported before, therefore please somebody help me to find "report " in menu.

NDimitrij

meh.png really? Please go trough the game  -  and than report. Looks you are a person who becomes upset or angry when loses.

Good luck in future!

Elcin_Ahmad

Dimitrij, of course I want to win but even when I lose in FAIR game I have enjoy. There is rules and preliminary agreements/offer to teaming exc. are prohibited. Im just a player,not a judge. Let people look and judge.

Personally, I have not reported anyone for teaming, however I have experienced players teaming (not necessarily across from each other) where they essentially target one player to the point that there is nothing he can do to defend himself, for instance sacrificing a bishop for pawn to allow their “teammate” to get out of a difficult position multiple times. I have even had people openly admit that they were teaming. This where I get frustrated.

Another great example of 2 players clearly prearranged teaming. Move 3 yellow and red make their intentions really clear. There is no way that any FFA player that is not deliberately teaming in the same way can possibly compete. This is what is ruining FFA, there is no justification for it being played exactly the same as teams.

Those that want to play teams, play teams!! Those who want to play FFA play FFA. Enough of this crap that is giving these losers inflated ratings.

https://www.chess.com/4-player-chess?g=2080552 Of course, you say that this is not teaming. but this teaming.
and you understand that very well.

mattedmonds

Tails, I would say that is just a mistake in the opening from you to allow the mate.
