When being chased from short distance let them chase then double back spike them and hit them. Also press comma to activate the power up for pets to deal more damage. From long range that depends on your range weapon. Try to shorten the range To melee fights unless you have bad items.

Also their Is a hard trick when you trap them with boost pads in a certain range so they are stuck for a while in it.
