CaptainPike's Flight Sim Goal

Sort:

  1. New computer. Been wanting one for many years; and now is the time to take the plunge!
  2. FSX Steam; Yes, there are better out there, but FSX aircraft creation is open source, so there are hoards of aircraft available!
  3. Minor periphreals: Macro keypad, keyboard, new trackball (mine's going out), headset (I want to fly with VATSIM)
  4. A conference style table to put it on with velcro to hold stuff in place
  5. Flight peripherals. I'd prefer Saitek Yoke/throttle/rudder pedals, but that's a little pricey; so I may have to settle for a Thrustmaster set
  6. Big screen TV (as multiple monitors of sufficient size is a little pricey -- I'm on a budget!) The TV for cockpit and a standard monitor for instruments

I should be able to get this all accomplished with my stim checks and tax refunds, if I commit to it instead of recklessly or responsibly spending and wishing later that I should have gotten it done!

I think I can

A little closer ... My refund is approved at the figured amount and I am expecting my refund by 3/29!

Got my refund. Ordered the flight controls today (yipee) and almost forced myself to do it to make sure I follow through with my goal. The price of the flight yoke/throttle quadrant/rudder pedals was significantly more than a Thrustmaster; but less than the prices I saw listed a year or so ago. Still working on an inexpensive computer to run it. Found one that likely will, but it only has 2 expansion slots and an integrated GPU. Don't like that; but I'm so far behind in technology and have so little money to play with, I may just go with it and call it "good".
