To prove Sagan is one of my heroes, I named one of my dogs after him. This is Sagan, watching Sagan on TV:
Carl Sagan on Life on Mars

My current dogs. There's 18 in the video. I've lost 3 since then. One to old age (she was at least 17), one to cancer, and one because my dog-hating neighbor killed one. I've had several dogs poisoned by neighbors. There are a lot of dog-haters in this world. I've had to move many times trying to keep them alive.

I won't consider alien life to be a significant discovery unless it was life the size and approximate intelligence of a small cat or dog minimum, was discovered on another planet. I think all this wasted effort analyzing rock samples trying to find a few microbes or bacteria so they can blow it out of proportion and say we finally found alien life is pathetic.

the very first electrical devices were pretty "pathetic". So were the first surgical procedures, the first computers, hell even the first wheels.
you'll never get anywhere, unless you start somewhere

what about a nano-bot? a conscious crystal?
think about your phone. smaller than any cat or dog. what is it's 'approximate' intelligence?

Cat or dog is more intelligent than any phone. They've experimented with comparisons like that, in the CVC crash course program they couldn't even approximate the intelligence of a 4 year old kid after programming tens of millions of lines of AI code.

so, if they found a metal box on Mars and it had a long dead cat in it, you would consider that more interesting than if it had a high tech communications device in it?
a cat (dead or alive) would just be a bio-signature, a sign of life.
a device would be a techno-signature, a sign of "intelligent" life

Yes, because as of now they haven't even found evidence of past life, let alone a full sized dead animal. If they found a communications device in it it would likely be from one of the probes we sent there that broke off or fell off during landing..etc. I'll only be impressed by a sentient life discovery on another planet.

"likely" is a word I don't agree with here.
so far, we have exactly zero data points in this area. so, nothing is more or less likely.

Well any tech that is found on other planets is probably human origin, secretly sent there by other governments around the world. Even alien abduction stories with witnesses footage, and everything, are still more likely to be top secret government operations with more advanced tech than civilians have, and they are likely experimenting with new medical tech on people, rather than aliens taking them LOL
