so variants and 4pc becoming same thing?
They have been the same for ages
exit 4 Player Chess in order to go back to variants and then click leaderboards, because any 4PC variants are separated from 4 Player Chess
I've noticed a pretty solid decrease in the games and players lately
That's a simple one, and in short, the game is basically frozen in place.
When I say the game is frozen, take a look here:
This is 4PC (blue) and Duck Chess (red).
Both of them had their spikes when big content creators (2020, GothamChess, etc.), (2022-2023, IMRosen, etc.) made videos popularizing them. But without continuous support and a clear lack of views, they stopped making videos as if it were a trend (which it was, in a regard), which clearly is a problem.
After the huge spike in the early months of this year, we likely retained about new 1000 players who now continuously play (just by looking at leaderboard numbers), but 4PC has never gotten popular and stayed popular, and Duck Chess is now just a husk of its former glory
(Obviously, I am not a statistician, I'm just using common sense, but it's a sensible way to see it regardless)

When (if ever) there is a Teams Championship, I am thinking of taking a 2000-2200 player and teaching them the finer points of the game. Afterwards, I'd be open to making a guide towards that same audience.

I'd be curious to see how this Google trend data compares with server data such as number of games, number of players, etc. Of course this information has not been made readily available to most, although it definitely should.
Things I see as fixable issues. I think the interface could be clearer; I think it may be overwhelming. I also worry that many players get in games against higher rated players. I wonder and hope 4pc and variants tracks players to see what variants, game results, and strength of opponents maximizes retention
