CHANGELOG

it's one thing that always worries me. Waiting for someone to think long is very disturbing and demotivating to me. If the chance for preliminary moves, so part of my time devoted to something other than waiting?
Would it be possible for you to outline each of the 8x8 boards for each player? That would make it a little easier to identify when someone is about to queen with having to manually count squares.
+1 for the pre-move option.
Also, means of distinguishing promoted queens would be appreciated.

I appreciate the change log! Feels like there is a real connection between the community and the dev team. Nice!

Let's say I open the main page of www.chess.com . What/where to click to play this 4 player version of chess? If you want to make it popular you have to make it easy to find.

@battleMind24: I'm not sure about my screen resolution. I think it's 1024x768. But I have an unusual screen-shape (square). To show you how much I have now off-screen, when I click to see the rules, I can only read in the first line: "Fo" and part of a 3rd letter (c or u I guess) and on the 2nd line "Piec", on the 3rd "(tho" etc.

I'm not sure about the new time-control. In general, the less time I have, the worse it is for me. In general, I don't play faster than 10-min games. The increment might help me cope, together with the fact that you have time to think while your opponents' clocks are ticking. But when it's down to two opponents, things might be too fast for me. I guess I'll find out.

Also, I preferred timers and points like they were previously. All in one place was much easier to handle, looking around the four corners is tiresome.

Agree. Better all in one place, great to see they have the 0:00 bug resolved.
The new time controls are awesome! Can finally see my time moving up rather than down, no matter how fast I moved before, even though somehow others could get their timers moving up, was just impossible on my connection. If you are used to 10 minute games, you will much prefer the new time controls, much more manageable.

@Eseles, if you could scroll right would that work?
Well, If I could scroll I wouldn't have a problem, but I can't scroll at all, either to the left, right, up, or down. And I'm talking about 100% zoom. I can see the whole text when I zoom-out at 30%, but then the text is so small I can't read it. And also when I zoom-in at 140% or more I can see more of the text, but the bottom lines get cut out - it's not ideal. [Maybe I could scroll after a game begins and I'm zoomed-in, but that's not a good solution, anyway.]
I personally think 1 min and 10 sec delay is a bit too fast (although i can understand 2+10 sec increment being too slow for many), as it does not do justice to the complexity many positions that arise in 4 player chess.
I dont think 1+10 delay is a bad time control, but it gives less flexibility with your time management, as the delay is that high compared to the overall time, meaning it does not reward playing simple moves (opening/trades/clear positions) quickly, and punishes longer thinks drastically.
Basically it forces you to spend a very similar amount of time each move, when the positions and requirements to think differ vastly, depending on the complexity of the position or impact of your decision on the game.
But thats just my opinion, i guess everyone has different preferences ;D .
Personally i do not mind waiting longer if it means having opponents roughly equal in strength.
First fix made me wait too long (sometimes 20 mins) with good opponents, this one matches me with opponents way below my rating again (up to 400 rating difference).
This usually results in an early resignation and the player being fortunate enough to move after him (which means also he is close on the board) get free 20 points and additionally getting one free side for his pawns to expand and promote very easily (also by capturing dead pieces and being sheltered behind them in their way forward).
In this scenario its a guaranteed win for named player if he has some idea what he is doing.

Not many visible changes today
* Queens that are worth 1 point have a seperate image with a "1" indicator. Thank @ignoble for that
* Bug fix: where a 9 point queen becomes 1 point queens
* A secondary pie timer is shown indicating how much delay is left (you'll see it)
* bug fix: games will not end when the second to last player's piece is taken
09/21/2017 (Fixes)
* We have moved to delay instead of increment for the time control. In other words, the time control is now 1 minute with a 10-second delay. That means you CANNOT gain time, but if you make your move within 10 seconds you won't lose time either. If you take longer than 10 seconds it will eat into your total time of 1 minute.
* You can only abort once every 30 minutes now.
* fixed high wait times for very high rated players or very low rated players
Once again thanks for all your feedback, comments, and support!
EDIT1: based on feedback the delay has been changed to 15 seconds.
09/20/2017 (the UI update)
A brand spanking new User interface which highlights:
* Timers and points have been moved to the corners of the board
* You can now exit games that you are observing without reloading the game
* The matchmaking times have been lowered
* New arrows to indicate the next players for a game the matchmaker has found so far
* NOTE: even if 4 players are found, the games will not always start immediately. This is by design! The matchmaker wants to ensure the best match possible and will wait for other players if necessary.
* New time-control 2 | 10. Please let us know how you like this.
* Mobile web has temporarily been abandoned (so if you play on mobile, please let us know!)
Try it out and let us know what you guys think!
09/13/2017
* Client side timer fix (sometimes times would be off by several seconds)
* Forward and back arrows (Forward-till-end and backwards-to-beginning will come soon)
* Notation on large screens
* Leaderboard profiles are now viewable by clicking on the player's image
* Low-time alert sound
09/08/2017
*Improved chat style
*Separate Player and spectator chat (spectators will still see player messages)
* Ability to stop players from chatting in the current game (by anyone who is playing)
*Fixes to board highlighting
*NEW RULE: You can only resign on your turn!
*NEW RULE: King is now equal to 20 points instead of 15 and hence checkmate = 20 too.
*NEW RULE: If the second-to-last person resigns the remaining player receives +20.
9/04/2017
*Fixed Rating system bug: Let me know if you find anything else wrong. You will only see the updated rating upon the next game. If you leave a game and rejoin another, your rating will change in-between games (you will not get a notification for this)
*New Time Control: 4 | 3 (4 minutes with 3 second increment)
*Replaced "Recent Games" with "Top games". (Top 30 games will be shown based on the average game rating)
*New matchmaking system: Depending on the number of players online, players will be matched up as closely as possible to the other players searching for a game. The more players the more accurate this should become.
*Ratings are shown in the top games list
