in the line I suggested, they could avoid closing the position by taking to d6 after you take on e4, but in this case they end up with and IQP with very little activity

dxe5 White can play an intermediate Bxd5, and then we can't create such a favorable structure, but his move looks decent.

that’s true. I missed Nxc3, bxc3, Bxe4, Qxe4, dxe5! Qxe5 and black as a bad IQP
