Yeah, I mean, you are correct, that would be a nice fix, but I'm just happy now the game has the correct ruleset.
Also, shogi and xiangqi would awesome to have but then we're not playing chess or a chess variant anymore, would we? Shogi is basically an entirely different game. Same with xiangqi and how would you program these different boards? How to contrast cheating in these variants? Wouldn't the community just be fractured?
I just don't think it's going to happen. Also these variants have dedicated sites already.
