Checkmate search

Looking for just checkmates in a particular opening. Is there a way to do this?

I would think the should be fairly easy. You can create a search filter that will give you all the games in a particular opening, though I don't know how well it handles transpositions. Then, do an AND filter on those results looking for the checkmates.

I don't have my computer un front of me so I don't know if there is a built-in filter for checkmate or if you need to filter by the mate text in the PGN.

I don't know if you can search with SCID for checkmate but I would;

create the database you want to search

open it as a text file with notepad or wordpad

perform a simple Ctrl F search for the "#" symbol, Ctrl X those games with the # symbol and paste them into a new text file

save the new file as a pgn and then open it for review

Using the method I described above, I searched a db of 1,006 Reti games and found only 8 games that ended in checkmate.

Thanks for the input. The problem is most games end before being checkmated but this will help.

You can search for # in SCID as well, in the "PGN contains text" fields.

What are u trying to accomplish by searching for checkmates by openings.  A lot of games end before the # happens
