I've been working with the Picochess team for awhile now. Essentially, this is a way to interface a chess engine a DGT chess clock for the GUI. Further integration includes a DGT smart board for detecting moves on the board.
I had fun with this project, it's part hardware (developing Raspberry Pi based computer with specialized 3D printed housing and widescreen display) and part software (re-imagining a chess GUI to be used from a chess clock form factor without the limitations of the existing DGT clock matrix display).
