I actually went over 2000 after some serious opening study
Chess openings

Cool im not saying that is not the way to get to a higher level and its the way i will be studying to improve although i don't see myself getting over 2000 any time this decade :)
I just wondered if their are a select few people who play openings without studying and are really good at chesss having got to a high level through just intellegence and a mind for the game, basically the game is made for them.
Congrats on getting over 2k Gilasaurus that is a hell of a achievement!

Meh in real life, OTB, I am only 1800-2000. I am too stressed/nervous to just play the game and it hugely affects my play. But here on the internet and when I do studies at home or even analyze other people's games I feel like I am between 2100 and 2200. As in just chess understanding rather than competition.
I am really bad at openings. If I would have to start playing a game from an opening position I am not comfortable with then I won't make awesome moves. In an opening to me there's just a lot of ways to put the pieces that make sense. However there's always nuances why one square is simply better than the other. At 2000+ I feel it's crucial to know your openings well, atleast 1 response with Black for both e4 and d4. I find White openings to be easier to study, I play d4 and there's only like 10 serious responses for me to go over.
So I am not one of those select few people, openings being my weak point I worked on them with visible results.
I have just begun my chess career and am starting to love the game RSK has been very helpfull with tips on how to improve my game.
So first a big thankyou to RSKfor the help and Inviting me to your group!
I have been learning openings and just had a though that I wonder anyone could answer, Are there some players who are very good that don't pay attention to openings by name and just play a solid opening stratergy and have gone on to be 2000+ players? They are just natural chess players of very high intelligence I guess yoou could call them a "Phenom".
Thanks
