Hey hey hey! With permission from @Scemer, (who also promoted me to co-ordinator, tysm) here is my first Chess Player of the Day forum. Enjoy!
Magnus Carlsen!
If you haven't heard of Magnus Carlsen, well, I don't know. Basically he's the world number one in chess, probably the greatest of all time. Better than me and you combined and triple that. Yeah, this dude needs no introduction. But i'm going to give him one anyway!
Magnus Carlsen (b. 30th November 1990) was born in Norway to Sigrun Oen, a chemical engineer, and Henrik Albert Carlsen, an IT consultant. During his childhood, he spent 1 year in Espoo, Finland (where I was born,) then in Brussels, Belgium before returning to Norway in 1998. Carlsen was a prodigy from the very start of his life, at the age of two he could solve 500 piece puzzles, and at four, he could make lego sets designed for 10-14 year olds!
At the age of five, his father, a keen amatuer chess player showed him how to play chess. Originally, Magnus showed little interest. In his first tournament, two years later, he scored 6/11. He became a grandmaster at age 13.
Since then, the road has been a smooth one for Carlsen, with him winning the World Chess Championship in 2013 and retaining it until 2023 when he didn't compete to keep it, ceding the title to Ding Liren
