dont be angry it's a joke !

MrWayne

Chess base light is fully functioning BUT you can't save anything.  It comes with Fritz 6

Chessbase 10 or 11 have the latest Fritz & costs around $100 US

SCID is free and comes with Toga II and you can save everything and create hundreds of specialized databases and upgrade for free when they are available. I used to use the free ChessBase and I even thought about forking out the money for the online database but I'm glad I didn't.

I think SCID is easier to use once you figure it out and has a more attractive appearance and you can build databases easily enough from what's available for free or for a reasonable price from various online sources.

For $100 I can probably buy about four useful memberships.

MrWayne

Like others I have tried CB light.  Local chess club uses CB.  So far SCID has proven itself to me, so I haven't felt the need to change.  I wanted to answer the original question even though it was in the wrong forum

MrWayne

Wormrose,

You have mentioned specialized DB and upgrade for free when they are available.

What kind of specialized DB are available?

wormrose

@MrWayne - By specialized db I simply meant you could assemble games selected for a specific, even limited purpose. For example; when I buy a chess book I like to download the example games which are given in the book and I keep them in a db just for that book and I will alter some of the info to accomodate page numbers, chapters, and that kind of stuff. So for each of my books I have a SCID db on file.

Also, the chessbase pirate key gen always have a Trojan (false or not, but detected), so don´t go for that.

I have around 2.3M of games. I found a database online with around 1.7M games. It was updated until some years ago. Then I made a manual updating process via TWIC and that´s all I need.

Chessbase has a terrific interface though.... but it costs an arm and a leg.
