is it me or is the tactics trainer here infuriating some times??

Zigwurst

What about it?

SaltyCoffee

some of the puzzles have the opponent make careless moves that you're supposed to "expect"? other things that irk me too, but maybe it's just me...

I think a better online tactics trainer program (that is free and unlimited in amount you can do a day!) is at ChessTempo.com. I've been using that site for awhile and even prefer it over my tactic books now. Give it a try.

Hm I think the tactics trainer moves have been run through an engine and the moves it makes are the ones that result in the "best" outcome. Try opening up the analysis board to see other variations.

Also, follow learning2mate's suggetion and go to chesstempo.com! Trying out more than 3 problems a day is really important to improve tactics.

TT makes the "careless" moves to test you to see if you know the response to the move.

You should be playing the moves that can counter any response that your opponent makes, otherwise you will lose tons of games.

I've heard this about chess tempo and I did try it before but missed the ability to pass on a puzzle. guess I'm ready to try it again lol

I read somewhere that the puzzles here are from actual games. if that's true there would be no common logic, which I need until the basics are solid understanding.
