Claiming the win - how does it work?

Hey 4-player fans,

I've played a few games now - I think I enjoy 4-player more than normal chess!!

What are the conditions for claiming the win? Clearly you have to be leading with the most points, and I assume its only in cases where there are two players left, but what, if any, are the other factors? ie. Do you have to be leading by a certain points count? Do you have to have passed a certain points count?

Thanks in advance. There doesn't seem to be anything about it in the rules.

Claim win is basically resigning, but for a win. Resigning/timing out when there is only one other player will award the last player standing with 20 points. If you are leading and there is only one person left, then if you are leading by more than 20 points, you can give your opponent the 20 points, end the game and come out ahead. Lets say you had 31 points and the last opponent had 10. If you resign now then the score goes to 31 and 30 so you win.

Ah, okay, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. Does this mean that if you're a few points shy of 20 ahead, you could strategically sack for 21 points then claim first place?

Well, sac pieces that are less than the piece that you are capturing.

Yeah, when there is 2 players remaining, and ur winning by >20 pts, claim the win. But make sure not to sac too much or your chance to claim is gone when he takes ur piece

you can only "claim win" on your turn, so if they can capture back and you lose material, don't do it
