Is anyone annoyed about the constant connection errors/lag/busy servers during any game or the variant game mode in general?
I've been having constant lags during a game in which the game freezes for me and I can't do a single move, and the game aborts or I forfeit on time. I've been banned a couple of times because I aborted too much when I just wanted to play normally.
yes, I have the same problem, but not only in variant-games but aswell in just normal games
Yes it seems to happen every day. The leaderboard is also gone since a while. There is also a third issue, in 4PC games I sometimes get connected even though I did not hit any play button, i.e. there is some sort of auto-connect going on. Maybe it is a feature not a bug, dunno

What I also do not understand is why sometimes your ELO gets such a hit when it is clearly the server which is struggling. The obvious solution is to either abort the game with no change to anyone's ELO, or at the very least, do not subtract ELO from anyone involved.

I agree, but unfortunately I'm fairly certain this would result in more lag from the extra processing required to detect a server is at fault.
Maybe a solution could be devised in which they wouldn't need to monitor the processing of N connections to detect the server causing lag for M players, but in all likelihood I think that would end up effecting every player with a connection to whichever server. So you'd probably just be compounding the problem by monitoring every connection and decreasing the concurrent connections a server can support, or creating a brand new problem such as negating ELO changes in non-affected games.
Since it's going to cost money to develop such a solution in the first place, and it's going to reduce the ability of the existing servers (probably) and thus require even more servers to keep up. It is cheaper to solve the problem with more servers than to solve the problem with code which still requires more servers.
Would be nice though.
