Yeah I think this is simple but fun. I've never played a variant with 2 royals before, but this sounds like it could restricts the queen's power.

if they promote they should be a 1 point queen or smth, not a royal

Actually, because the queen cannot come close enough to check the king, as the queen herself would be in check.

I really love this idea! I think it's genius! The fact that the queen cannot ever deliver check or checkmate (although it can be an aid) greatly restricts her power and makes the game very interesting and fresh. I think you are most definitely onto something here! Do you have to checkmate both royals to win or just one? I think you should make both versions.
BTW, I am making my own variant. I like this so much that I might include this feature in my own!

thanks!! also, the queen can check the king, it just cannot get too close that the other team's queen or king can capture it. you have to checkmate just one royal to win

Interesting... I was thinking, that for the version of checkmating both royals, maybe you would have to checkmate one before the other... but, I like the one royal-mate version, too!

both are subject to check and checkmate
checkmate is when no matter where you move, the queen or king will be in danger, so a fork or a skewer could be checkmate
im new to this server and i have a new idea for a variant that is pretty interesting, more so than simple modified rules that are hard to adjust to
its called coregal chess. the queen is subject to check and checkmate just like the king is. if either is checkmated, the checkmating team wins. this means that scholar's mate is not possible. castling is possible short and long with both the queen and the king. when a pawn promotes to a queen, that queen will also be subject to check and checkmate
