You have only pawns, and when you kill a piece, it turns to a knight, then a bishop and then a rook and then a king and then a queen.

4 Dimensional/Alien Teleport/Spaceship Chess, Players have their pieces normally set up but the pieces can't move past the walls down the middles of the board that cut it into 4x4 square quadrants to another quadrant/dimension without teleporting to another quadrant, by landing on the corner square in their quadrant (their choice which quadrants corner square they go to when they land on it) no Pawn promotion or en passing. One must land on a quadrants corner square in order to trleport to another quadrant and take all pieces on corner squares of their opponent as they land on each corner square. If their piece is on one of them they can't land on that quadrant's corner square.

6 player cube chess.
A 5 x 5 x 5 Cube around which on each side are deployed the players pieces ( these areas are in addition to the cube , 5 wide 1 wide and 2 deep ) which have a row of pawns followed by the set pieces ; king in the center with a queen to their right , bishop to the right and two knights on the edges.
Can be a team game or a last king standing. Pawns promote in opposing sides back line ( can move up or down if they hit the wall ) , en passent only if they pass the grid of threat.
10 by 10 chess: chess, except each side gets two extra rooks and pawns on the added edges of a 10 by 10 board
