An idea I was having for a variant, is a random starting position, in which the person creating the game gets to choose some of the rules for how the pieces will be arranged on the board, but the exact starting position is random. For instance the creator of a game might specify that the starting position can only have knights and camels but allow everything else about the position to be random, or alternatively a creator might specify that each player will have 20 pieces but allow the type and arrangement of pieces to be random.
I was thinking that in addition there could be an option to randomize the rules, but select what rules the game might have. For instance the one making the game might specify that the game may or may not be KOTH but that it will certainly be sideways pawn, or the creator might specify that the game must be atomic but whether or not it's a stalemate win is random.
