Thank you!!! This is so helpful and really exactly what I needed. I like the Dutch Defense. There’s so much here to unpack. Just to confirm, you can’t play the Sicilian against d4 right?

You can play Benoni but not Sicilian 😆

DasBurner

I can't really help you with the dutch as I 1. Don't play it 2. Don't find it hard to play against

I'm sure there's someone higher rated than me in here that does play the Dutch though

DasBurner

I put Old Benoni in there but not the regular Benoni cause I'm still annoyed by how many people play an early c5 in the Catalan and I'm forced to transpose to Fianchetto Benoni

1.d4 2.Nf3 move order avoids all that

yeah true but I'd still rather play Fianchetto benoni than play this every time after 2. nf3

Like it's not amazing for black but god I've seen enough of it

it's just the chigorin.

I kinda already knew how to play against the Chigorin (thanks for the second example btw) but it's one of those situations similar to the Sicilian. I'll go into the game thinking "nice, I'm gonna play a sharp counterattacking game, it's gonna be so exciting, I'm gonna be able to use all my knowledge" and then white pulls out the Bowdler attack. I'll go into the game "great, I studied so much Catalan theory, I know the motifs, I know what to do now if he turtles up with e6 + c6" and then with the nf3 move order I have to play a Chigorin

chigorin e5 line is basically a forced win for white
