What do you like to play against this semi-common opening (at least at my level)? Accepting it seems to be the usual continuation, but after 5. c3 how do you retreat?

Accept and then Ba5 if I actually play this line.

yep... then d4 is a gambit line but I believe o-o is the true mainline.

Kadenstarr

just decline the gambit and move on in peace...

There is actually a split with two Mainlines to choose from in the Accepted lines. Ba5 is one option (my preference if I'd play it) and Be7. Both are tried and tested and have lots of theory you can look into.

I play bc5 back I think and never had any problems

bb6 looks better than be7

be7 looks alittle passive

bb6 still helps put pressure on f2 and d4

I just don’t play e5

but seriously as a former Evans player myself the hardest is just where black takes and plays Be7 and demands that white show compensation for the pawn
