always go for a Canon. I have looked into this myself and found that the Canon 40D is a quality camara. I am saving up for this model, always look on ebay for any bargains
Digital SLR Camera

Hi, I use a Canon EOS 350D and really like it. It is (relatively) cheap, has plenty of features, lenses and - for outdoor use - it is quite small and light compared to the Nikons.
I like landscape photography and the Canon does the job, but before you buy have a think what you'll use it for the most, for example - my camera isn't very good for hi-speed photography - racing cars, bikes etc. The built in flash is not very good so you'll have to spend more on a flash gun for portraits.
Hope this helps, you won't go wrong with either Canon or Nikon...

Chris.

I've done just that. Superb fotos! I've heard there is a new Canon EOS 50D just coming on the market but rather expensive.

Yes,SRL is a camera that i am planning to buy also.I have a good compact,but SLR are much better..I suppose Nikon and Canon are top at this category but as my friend Chris said the most important is what you'll use it for the most.You can choose an wide-angle lens for landscapes or a zoom lens to bring things closer without loosing quality.The choice is yours!

I use a leica range finder with real film ; as it become;s now high art;
with what i do ; and one day there will want my negs. as well.,.

SLR THEY BOTH GOOD BUT I GOT A CANON AND ITS GREAT THE THE JUST BETER THAN NIKON. GOT SOME NICE PIS IL POST LATER

Hello! Just joined the group. My interest is birdwatching photography. I am new to it but would like to get a digital SLR and lenses that would do the job very well; not too cheap and not too expensive. Any suggestions?

Recently got myself a Nikon D90 with a Nikor 18-105mm ED zoom lens. I hope to add a teleobjective later to my kit.
For your purpose you will definitely need a teleobjective like 400mm or higher. Of course a tripot will also be needed then.
I had taken fotos of birds with my camera, but only at close range due to my camera limitations. See the results for yourself. Here is the link

There is a deterioration of quality here compared with the original pictures.
I'm planning to buy myself a new Digital SLR Camera and would like to hear about other users who already used one. Somehow I'm thinking of either Canon or Nikon.
