Discussion of the rules

Probably we will for the first season be divided into four groups. The group plays a round robin system. This is probably the four group matches for each team. Upon completion of the group stage, then the intersecting first and second groups, and the third and fourth groups.

The first two teams from each group move on. A first team in the group with the second team in Group B. .. and so on.

That's quarterfinals ... winners advance to the semifinals, lost play for the order from fifth to eighth places. Semifinal winners fight for the Champions League title, lost a play for the third and fourth.

After this season, we can think that next year we play in two leagues. If we remain around twenty, the first ten teams would be play in the premier league, the last ten in the second division. At the end of the season, the top two teams from second division would be be promoted to first division, and the last two teams from the first division would be fallen to the second division. On this we still have time to think.

Since those teams that strive for title, must be able to beat most teams .. so it is not an essential way of ranking teams in magnitude. I've seen in the TM league, the way that everyone makes it easier record keeping. Middle rating groups at Chess.com site that add by the total number of players in that group. By that strength of teams, they would be deployed in groups A to D.

Probably some not like this either, but each of us has to make a small compromise to would be everyone agreed ..

Here I will first .. I insisted on two days per turn .. I agree on three Smile

Good, very good that diagram is here (nice work from Milan).

And yes! for this season round robin system looks very good and will make competition exciting, interesting to play, so I am in agreement with this years proposal.

As for the next year, it will depend on the number of cities. If the league enlarges substantially, we may actually be forced to adopt two league system.

As for the third point I think that we should make compromises if it leads to simpler record keeping - this is not going to be an easy job to do.

Lastly, two days are indeed more effective, but I am in favor of 3, because of various obligations players might have. However, if we go for 2, we must give then more latitude to vacation time.

I agree with Milan,is very good proposal.

I agree with Milan's proposal as well. Let's define the 4 groups and the starting dates of the matches. I propose that each game starts at interval of time of 8 days. Ex:

Team Athens vs Team 1 on March 1st - locking day on March 9th

Team Athens vs Team 2 on March 9th - locking day on March 17th

etc.

If on this day(16.02.2011), we made a list of teams according to the strength..  it would look like this..

  1. Thessaloniki 1817+48= 1865
  2. Toshkent 1780+33= 1813
  3. North York 1778+15= 1793
  4. Zagreb 1736+27= 1763
  5. Toronto 1700+37= 1737
  6. Athens 1672+53= 1725
  7. London 1687+35= 1722
  8. Bradford 1693+27= 1720
  9. Hong Kong 1682+21= 1703
  10. Beograd 1568+115= 1683
  11. Leeds 1652+28= 1680
  12. Galatsades 1610+27= 1637
  13. San Diego 1539+71= 1610
  14. Liverpool 1585+14= 1599
  15. Nis 1567+32= 1599
  16. Paris 1489+98= 1587
  17. Bristol 1537+40= 1577
  18. Portland 1436+128= 1564
  19. Detroit 1462+38= 1500
  20. Seichamps 1427+23= 1450

And then the group looked like this..

Group A

Thessaloniki

Toronto

Hong Kong

San Diego

Bristol

Group B

Toshkent

Athens

Beograd

Liverpool

Portland

Group C

North York

London

Leeds

Nis

A date would suggest this ...

For the first round

20, February Challenge / 27, Feb. acceptance of challenges / one day for complaints / 1, March match starts

So like this for all rounds within the group. Since it would be four matches for each team in the group, the last match have to start 1, June.

Round 2
March 23 Challenge / March 30 acceptance of challenges / day for complaints / April 1 start of the match

Round 3
April 22 Challenge / April 29 accepting the challenge / day for complaints / May 1 start of the match

Round 4
May 23 Challenge / May 30 accepting the challenge / day for complaints / June 1 start of the match

Since in  the summer months we expect holidays and we would have to wait for the completion of matches in the group, to find out who goes on .. it would probably be best to start the knockout stages arrange for a 1, September.

In the knockout stage we have to wait ends of matches, so I suppose that after quarterfinals in about 50-60 days begin the semifinals. So the same days to the finals after a semifinal round. The match for third place starting the same time as the finale..... and matches from the fifth to eighth places would also be played in time for the semifinals and finals. The teams that lost in the quarterfinals would be crossed by the system team from Group A with a team from Group B and those from Group C with a team from Group D. The winners of these matches would be fight in a new match for fifth place, while teams that lost would play the match for seventh place.

I agree.

The calculation of the team strength needs very little compromising, if at all, because it seems that it would change very little.

The idea of summer break is reasonable, largely avoids vacation problems. and thus allows 2 day per move system

Avatar of Anastasakis

3 days per move pls, a lot of us have children, animals, jobs, travels, etc.

Avatar of MilanBgd01

3 days per move will be ... you have rules in this topic in brief ..

Let's see: for the group B:

1st match for Athens vs Liverpool on March 1st

2nd match for Athens vs Beograd on April 1st

3rd match for Athens vs Portland on May 1st

4th match for Athens vs Toshkenton June 1st

Who assigns the order of the games?

Avatar of MilanBgd01

The order of the games we play, I will with the help of software to share.

Will be awarded before the start of the league, so everyone will know when it is expected to match

Avatar of MilanBgd01

Since no one expressed complaint to this kind of divide, we will take it as a finished thing. Smile

In Bradford we have a healthy over the board league. I presume the nearby towns covers this?

Avatar of NOPI

When you start the quarterfinals, the teams who were third, fourth and fifth, should play in their groups for the order. We should all have fun

I'm open to ideas. You mean to play within their group ... and the points that win to are added with the existing points in the group?

On the basis of total points, we will know two other groups (with already existing groups that have gone further in the knockout stage) that go into the first division next season, if we decide for it ... So you are mean like that?

Some do, some may not ... You'll just to have rested players, if you pass a group for more difficult matches Cool

Avatar of MilanBgd01

However we have to have 5 rounds ... I did not thought about that in each round one team will be free, because in the our group  we have 5 teams...

Avatar of Anastasakis

... so round 5 starts July 1st.

I think the 3rd teams of all the 4 groups can play for 2 places in the 1st division. This way, for the next year the 1st division will be composed by 10+2 teams and the 2nd division by the other 8 teams of the 2011 tournament + the new teams that will apply to join. This way the 3rd has one more chance and this is nice.
