DON"T READ THE READY PLAYER ONE BOOK BEFORE WATCHING THE MOVIE

I absolutely LOVE the book Ready Player One. I have read it a grand total of 18 times. (Life completely sucks most of the time. Videogames are the only thing that make life bearable) So when I realized a movie was coming out, there was no question about it; I had to watch it.

The movie started out okay, with Wade Owen Watts (Initials WOW as you might remember he typed in at the end of a Black Tiger game). Describing everything exactly from the book. However, once he logged into the OASIS, all that changed. He doesn't have a money problem, he has a Delorean, which, in the book, he doesn't get until after he cleared the first gate.

The gameplay is also completely different. By "gameplay", for it is a book about a videogame, I mean that the gates and keys are completely different. In the book, the keys and gates are achieved and completed separately, but it seems as if the keys are completely ignored in the movie. When clearing the second gate, you get to choose a giant robot. In the book, Aech chooses a Gundam, but in the movie, at the final battle, he has a plain robot. AND HOW THE HELL DOES SORENTO GET THE MECHAGODZILLA IN THE MOVIE?!?

Now, the characters. In this category, the movie was AWFUL. In the beginning of the movie, Wade's Aunt Alice seems like a kind, caring person who is just stressed about work or something. In the book, she is a cruel selfish person who only took Wade in for extra food vouchers. Although this is probably for the better, and indeed, I liked it better, Daito doesn't die in the movie, and he and Shoto are actually brothers instead of really good friends. Also, how is "Shoto" changed to "Sho"? I don't know what to say. It's infuriating! Surely those directors caught the mistake! I mean, what happened? Did the dumb scriptwriter not write the name correctly? If that's the case, I would as a director sacrifice $100 to print out a fixed script. Moving on, how is Aech's avatar changed from a caucasian to a hulking giant. And why does he/she (her avatar is male, but she's female IRL) act so dumb? In the book he/she is one of the smartest unofficial Halliday scholars in the world, but in the book, he/she acts most stupidly. Also, in the book, Art3mis's avatar is said to look almost identical to her, minus a birthmark on her face. In the movie, the avatar looks NOTHING like her.

My point is, although both are great works, if you read the book first, you can't help but spend the entire movie correcting its errors as I did. Heed my advice, and you will enjoy both much better.

I must agree, though how do you have the time to write ALL of that?

Yes
