Double Resignation in Team Chess

Just a weird thought...

I'm sure I'm not the only one to suffer from a partner who resigns early in team chess. Or gets cut off by the internet. So, just wondering...

What if the rule was that when one player resigns their partner gets to keep playing, just like in free for all? The resigning player gets a loss, but the player that continues on could, if he did amazingly well, pull out a win. Or at least get to try!!

So the rule would be that a player only loses if they resign or if they or their partner are mated (or have their king taken). The player who resigns or times out would have their pieces go grey, like in free for all.

If it was, it will be definitely good

the teammate could take over their their pieces, so it would still be teams

This is a great idea I think I agree with all of you

Yeah, I thought of that, but some people would object if the 1400 player took over the 1100 player's pieces and beat the two 1200 players happy.png
Both ideas are worth considering, definitely. As would some kind of 'resignation' penalty for the player whose partner won the game.

... indeed, on another note, I think there should be a one hour block on player who resign before a certain move... say 12 in. If you have to leave anyway, like your wife calls you to dinner, than the block won't hurt you. But if you are like some players and merely resign because you don't like someone, or your partner made a dumb move, then you won't be able to get right back on.

maybe if two of the three remaining players agree (including you) for you to take his place you can. if not you stay with your pieces only

also, maybe the pairings should be closer then so what VAO  wouldn't happen
